Working with Chef Phil Jones over the years, I asked if I could bring college and high school students in to continue the great framework that he had established by placing young people in grocery and food venues to deliver healthy eating information.
The Fresh Prescription Network’s farmers market partner sites were the primary locations, but Good Food Ambassadors with the WSU Community Health Pipeline were also placed on DDOT buses to engage riders and promote the Saturday “Fresh Wagon” direct to Eastern Market.
Materials were developed with a nutrition education sub-committee of the Fresh Prescription Network, including WSU Nutrition and Food Science Department, and a standardized training was delivered including: motivational interviewing, nutrition 101, and community engagement basics.
