The federal government began offering funds for States to expand Medicaid coverage as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). For Michigan, this meant coverage for 218,000 uninsured people. Surprisingly, the Republican Governor was on board with the expansion, but the overwhelmingly Republican legislature was not interested.
MICHUHCAN went to work to lead a statewide advocacy campaign when other health care advocacy organizations were not engaged. I generated easy to understand data visuals, collected stories from patients and providers, and most successfully I created memes that grabbed viral attention for the campaign.
Our branded campaign also collected signatures and delivered 4,500 signatures to the Governor’s office.
