Knowing where to vote for an election should be the easy part. Detroit has had very low voter participation after the Presidential election of Barack Obama and there has been limited engagement by the city government or city clerk to increase that number. We noticed a regular data disconnect between voting precinct boundary changes, polling place changes, and constant reporting that Detroiters who wanted to vote kept turning up at the wrong locations as a result.
So, we revitalized the non-partisan Vote Detroit effort to engage and promote voter participation with a handful of incredible partners from MSU Engaged MI, Detroit Democracy Project, Detroit Disability Power, and BridgeDetroit.
We were able to engage thousands of Detroiters in more easily accessing their voting information and the voter participation in 2025 increased by almost 3%.
