Development

Back in February (when I was still looking for a job) I began designing images for my upcoming wedding! I had gotten engaged to the woman of my dreams in June and we had finally picked a date: August 12th 2011. We had decided that we wanted a semi-formal, summer wedding with sunflowers. We had secured one of the last remaining open dates for the summer at Cobblestone Farm, an historic farm house museum and renovated barn for events, that is just beautiful in the summer months.

I started by working on our Save-the-Date postcards. I knew that I would need a barn image, why not the actual Cobblestone barn and a sunflower.

It wasn’t until developing the Save-the-Date that I decided to use the full written out version of the date: eight twelve eleven. (see eight twelve eleven – Print)

My goal was to create a recognizable image that was elegant and simple that wedding guests would recognize after the Save-the-Date was mailed out. In other words a set of images that could be used across a series of mediums: website, invitation, signs, etc.

This is the sunflower image that I used to create a simplified version. I used a similar process to create the barn image (below).
